Tips and Tricks for Wildlife Prevention

HomeBlogTips and Tricks for Wildlife Prevention

Keeping squirrels, birds, bats, and raccoons out of your home is critical for creating a safe and healthy living environment. These animals may appear innocent, yet they may cause serious damage to your home and pose health risks for you and your family. With this in mind, here are a few tips and tricks to assist you with wildlife prevention.

Tips and Tricks for Wildlife Prevention

  • Inspect Your Home Regularly: Inspect your home for potential entrance points such as holes, cracks, or gaps in walls, roofs, and foundations. If you see any openings, use steel wool, caulk, or expanded foam to fill them. Additionally, make sure your chimney has a cap to keep raccoons, squirrels, and birds from entering.
  • Outdoor Maintenance: Keep tree branches at least 10 feet away from your roof to prevent animals from leaping onto it. Also, to avoid attracting animals, use heavy-duty, wildlife-proof trash cans with secure lids. In addition to this, make sure to remove food sources, such as fallen fruit from nearby trees, birdseed, or pet food from your yard. You might also consider installing fencing around your garden or yard to keep some animals away.
  • Additional Deterrents: Motion-activated lights or sprinkler systems may deter nocturnal animals such as raccoons and bats. During the daytime, avoid feeding the wildlife, as this only encourages them to come back and possibly nest on your land.
