- Keep outside clean. To prevent animals from getting inside, you first have to limit the appeal of the outside of your property. For example, raccoons are drawn to any trash left outside. Make sure all trash is stored in wildlife-proof garbage cans that raccoons and other wildlife can’t get into. Don’t leave out any pet food for wild animals to find.
- Trim your trees. Any tree limbs close to your roof can provide squirrels and other wildlife with the perfect runway to your roof and attic. This wildlife prevention tip isn’t as widely known as others, but it’s very important to limit access to your roof as much as possible since this is a common place for animals to nest and enter your home. A good rule of thumb is to make sure tree limbs are at least eight feet away from your home.
